I wish ESPN would realize only hipsters and people who played soccer give a shit about this.

between hipsters and people who played soccer i'd say that's at least a third of the population even in the states. that's a pretty good market share.

I've been trying to get ESPN3 to work for like an hour. I click clicking things that should open the player and nothing happens, even with pop-up stuff disabled. I'm close to lighting myself on fire.

I think you're overestimating how many hipsters/people there are that play soccer. Five year olds who play just because their parents want them to run around for an hour don't count. But hey who knows. Plus you have to count the hipsters who aren't into any sports at all, and are just weirdos.

At any rate, the bottom line is, in the US, soccer would love to be as popular as hockey is, which isn't saying much.

Drastically overestimating. Maybe 10%. Maybe.

yes, this is the group stage. it is the equivalent of a 6 game (each team plays each other once, so 3 each) qualifying for the round of 16 which is you are out if you lose.

penalty kicks in soccer to decide world cup games are about the only thing worse than hockey shootouts to decide international games.

90 boring minutes for a 1-1 tie. Sounds about right. At least both teams will get to go to pizza hut after the game.
